Spiral Bound Booklet Printing

Coil binding threads a single continuous plastic spiral through punched holes along the edge of the page. Also called spiral binding, it lays completely flat, folds all the way back, and the coil flexes rather than bending permanently — which makes it the most durable option for books that get carried, dropped and used hard.
WHAT IT'S USED FOR
- Planners, journals and daily logs
- Cookbooks and recipe collections
- Field manuals and jobsite documentation
- Employee handbooks and reference guides
- Workbooks, curricula and course material
SPECIFICATIONS
- Flat lay: Lays completely flat and folds back 360°.
- Durability: Most durable binding we offer. The plastic coil springs back into shape instead of deforming, so it survives being packed, dropped and used daily.
- Page count: Pages go in increments of 2, and coil handles thicker books than wire-o — the coil diameter scales with the page block.
- Paper: 100lb gloss text is standard. Uncoated is the better choice for planners, journals and anything written in.
- Coil color: Black is standard.
- Spine: No printable spine — the binding edge is open coil.

FAQ
What's the difference between coil and wire-o binding?
Coil is a single continuous plastic spiral; wire-o is a twin loop of metal. Coil is more durable in practice because it flexes back into shape, so it suits books that travel. Wire-o looks more formal and is usually chosen for presentation pieces and corporate manuals.
Does a spiral bound book lay flat?
Completely flat, and it folds back on itself so only one page shows. That's why cookbooks and planners are almost always coil bound.
How thick can a coil bound book be?
Coil handles thicker books than wire-o — the coil diameter increases with the page count. If your book exceeds what the largest coil will take, we'll let you know and suggest an alternative.
Can pages be added or removed later?
Not without re-binding. The coil is crimped at both ends after threading. If you need a document that gets updated, a three-ring binder is the better format.
What paper works best for a planner or journal?
Uncoated stock. Gloss coating resists ink and makes writing difficult, so anything people will write in should be uncoated.
